Jo-Wilfried Tsonga came from a set down against third seed David
Goffin to win his first ATP Tour event in 17 months at the Rotterdam
Open on Sunday.
Tsonga had not lifted a trophy since September 2015 in Metz and it
appeared that barren streak may continue as Goffin started strongly, but
the Frenchman battled back to triumph 4-6 6-4 6-1.
It has been a momentous week in the Netherlands for the world number
14 having claimed his 400th career win as he beat Tomas Berdych in the
last four.
He needed to fight for number 401, though, as Goffin dominated the early proceedings, breaking twice to lead 4-1 in the opener.
The Belgian converted his second set point to move ahead, but it only served to spark Tsonga into life.
Tsonga needed five set points against the serve to level the match at
the end of the second and with the wind in his sails the sixth seed
raced through the decider.
Five successive games put the 31-year-old within touching distance of
the title and he duly completed the job with a string of stunning
forehands.
