SPORT NEWS : Chandimal rues Sri Lanka batting at World T20 .
Dinesh Chandimal says Sri Lanka's batting let them down at the World
Twenty20 as their tournament finished with a disappointing eight-wicket
loss to South Africa on Monday.
The Group One contest in Delhi was a mere dead rubber after both
teams were already out of the tournament, and deposed champions Sri
Lanka's hopes of a consolation win diminished after they were bowled out
for just 120.
Sri Lanka had started well enough, but after reaching 45-0 off four
overs the wickets tumbled and South Africa easily reached their 121
target to bow out with a win.
And Chandimal - standing in as captain due to Angelo Mathews'
hamstring injury - was disappointed with Sri Lanka's efforts with the
bat.
"Someone has to put their hands up. It was a really good start, but
no one rebuilt the innings," he said at the post-match presentation.
"Our batting has let us down in this tournament. It is tough always,
when you are playing against South Africa, they are a great side.
"We couldn't execute our plans in the middle."
Chandimal, though, hopes to have more opportunities at major
competitions, adding: "It depends on performance, still I'm only 26,
fingers crossed."
